In the late 1830's John Sutter called the confluence of the American River and the Sacramento River the "perfect place." The land was flat, the soil ripe and ready for plowing, the wide river teeming with fish and waterfowl. Today, Sutter's "perfect place" is the setting for an extraordinary new community: The Rivers.
